Pomona College International Relations Curriculum

The International Studies Program focuses on the growing importance of transnational actors, global markets, and international institutions that challenge traditional notions of statehood and sovereignty. This focus on the process of the globalization at the systemic level is complemented by an additional focus on foreign cultures—their languages, histories, and position in the global context. The program’s emphasis on globalization and regional studies is supported by requirements in modern language and study abroad, as well as by the activities of the Oldenborg Center. These experiential aspects of the program of the program introduce insight and empirical richness to the study of international society.

The goal of the International Relations Program is to develop in students the ability to think analytically and independently about the structural features of global society. Graduates are prepared for a variety of postgraduate professional and academic degree programs. Career possibilities include government service, law, business, non-governmental advocacy, journalism, teaching, and research.

The major is governed by a faculty-student committee representing relative departments and students majoring in the program.
